The Healing Chi look to improve their Mental Health & Wellness platform after noticing users drifting towards other platforms. I collaborated with a team of designers using mixed-method research and quick ideation strategy to craft a new experience for users.

Getting Started

I started this redesign by analyzing previous research and data. My findings showed a strong basis for conceptualizing a health and wellness platform. So, why are users not interested anymore?

Data Collecting

Surveys, SWOT and feature analysis sampled from 70+ participants

I continued by evaluating the latest prototype, from the previous design team. There was beneficial substance but still lacked the necessary content that would keep users around. What’s missing?

Finding The Missing Piece

I implemented a comprehensive competitive analysis and researched examples of successful health and wellness brands, or adjacent, and findings features that would elevate our new experience.

Competitive Examples

Users are able find what they need with filters—location, insurance, and services.

"Find a Therapist" Feature, Therapy For Black Girls Platform

Options are displayed as thumbnail images make for pleasant and not-so-overwhelming search experience.

Asking The Users

Since members were leaving, I sought to understand the reason. To reinforce a user-centered approach, I formulated surveys and conducted interviews with several members of The Healing Chi. This gave me an idea of how to solve specifically for them, the target audience.

Translating Data Into Experience

Once I gathered enough data, I advised my team to use a practical design approach with participational experiences. By offering more ways to participate, the platform would see an increase of usage from previous and new members, and improve business goals.

User flow of new features—volunteer, instructor, memberships.

The Impact

There isn't a universal  solution when getting mental health or wellness help, especially within the BIPOC community. My team and I recognized this and helped identify those specific needs for The Healing Chi users— giving them the right support and a way to build a strong community.

Next Steps

We didn't have time to test our features on current members of The Healing Chi. I wanted to test it and see what results we would have found.

Preform additional research and refine our features. Include new wellness resources.
